(NC)—Across Canada, you will find volunteers who give their time and expertise to help their communities and enrich the lives of others. Their contributions are a fundamental part of every community. One such group of volunteers work with the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation's, Look Good Feel Better, a charitable program dedicated to empowering women to manage the appearance-related effects of cancer and its treatment.
This program is the only one of its kind in Canada, and at its heart is a free, 2-hour workshop offered at more than 100 cancer care facilities and hospitals across the country.
One of the most important components of the workshop is the team of 1,800 experts who volunteer their time, energy and skills to teach women with cancer how to look and feel more like themselves again. However, over and above the cosmetic tips and hair alternative techniques that the volunteers share with the workshop attendees, it is the care, understanding and one-to-one attention that they provide that is most important. As one participant noted, "The women [volunteers] giving the session were amazing – professional, fun and considerate..."
And the volunteers benefit too.
"It's an incredibly wonderful and rewarding way to give a few hours of my time each month," says Team Leader, Connie Graham. "From the planning and scheduling of our enthusiastic volunteers, to sharing our knowledge in a very interactive way, each and every one of us gets absorbed with the laughter, compassion and positive feelings. We all love this work."
