Some things are not worth giving or receiving: Keep germs away this holiday season

(NC)—'Tis the season for giving and receiving. But some unwanted gifts, like a nasty case of the flu, can ruin your family's holidays. Help your family put up its best defence this holiday season with these tips from Wet Ones Antibacterial Hands and Face Wipes:

1. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. Many germs are transmitted through shaking hands, touching surfaces and then touching your face. Holding the escalator railing at the mall or shaking hands at Bob's holiday party could lead to a less-than-festive season. Keeping your hands clean will help limit the likelihood that germs will get into your system.

2. You can't always have soap and water handy, especially during the holidays. Be prepared at the school recital, office party or shopping mall by keeping a package of antibacterial wipes handy in your purse or car, like a Wet Ones travel pack or canister. Send your child to school with a travel pack in their backpack, to help them stay clean before the school's holiday party.

3. If you are constantly on the go during the holiday season, exercise and diet can suffer. It's important to try to eat a balanced diet, remember your vitamins, and try to get some form of exercise every day throughout this busy season to keep your immune system in good shape which can help ward off a cold or the flu. And don't forget to get your ZZs. A good night's sleep can also do the body wonders.

4. Whether you're in the middle of a cold or feel one coming on this December, consider taking a natural supplement that may help boost your immune system and may reduce cold and flu symptoms.

5. Limit contact with people who are sick as much as possible. Take your lunch break early and go to the mall to shop when there's less of a crowd, avoid spending a lot of time in a coughing, sniffling colleague's cubicle and teach your children the importance of clean hands to avoid spreading those cold and flu viruses.
